7 ways to keep positive

With everything that’s going on around us at the moment, it’s sometimes hard to stay positive. Especially when working from home, often away from friends, families and colleagues whose help and support is often vital to keep you motivated. Here’s a mini-blog of 7 things you can do right now that could help.

A mini blog from Ashley

  1. Keep connected.
Not just to colleagues and clients, now is a great time to get back in touch with old friends, extended family and I’ve found it extremely helpful talking to my connections in business groups. It’s incredibly useful to discuss common problems and help find solutions between you.

  2. Keep active.
I used to cycle to work, so exercise was automatic for me. Now I have to remember to take regular breaks, get exercise and get moving. At home, with fewer office distractions, I’ve suddenly discovered I have been sitting still for hours.

  3. Keep mentally fit.
Whilst some of us are working harder than ever, others have a bit of down time, so it’s a great opportunity to stretch your mind and learn a new skill or language and there's tons of online resources for that!

  4. Use the time.
We may never get this opportunity again. To reconnect with your family, to watch the weather, see Spring unfold in your garden or appreciate the world around us.

  5. Separate home and work.
This is sometimes hard for me to do! Why not create a small ritual before starting or finishing work, walk around the room, take your daily exercise or go to the shops?

  6. Keep on keeping on.
There’s lots to be said for a Positive Mental Attitude, count your blessings and you are more likely to thrive.

  7. It’s not forever.
Yes, things may not be quite the same again but plan for life after Coronavirus, give yourself something to look forward to; a holiday, a treat, a trip, a party or just an old fashioned a piss-up!

To help research this blog, I asked the Bolser team for feedback and ideas, as ever, they had some great advice:

“Look at what you do have, rather than what you do not have/or have lost.

Analyse the situation and try and make the best of what you have. "When life gives you lemons... make lemonade!"

Also, fresh air! Maybe after work, to break up the work/home situation so you don’t feel like your work is at home as much

Don’t put pressure on yourself to always be productive, do what’s going to make you happy, it’s ok to do nothing!

Speak to people as much as you can.

Also getting back into running. Talking to my neighbours from a distance. Video calls with friends and family. Catching up on the niggling list of jobs around the home that had been left for ages. And being thankful for mine and my family & friends good health.

…oh and another one I saw online - we have a jar of dreams - basically write down on coloured post it notes all the different things we want to do once all this madness is over!

… I think having a semblance of a routine helps with positivity - so managing expectations of what you can actually achieve in a day."
