Introducing the top 40 ‘Intelligent Application’ companies

Madrona Venture Group, based in Seattle, have been investing in technology based companies for over 25 years. In 2021, they joined forces with Goldman Sachs to launch the first ‘Intelligent Applications Top 40’ ranking, in recognition of the growth in this sector.

The ranking is research based with the top 40 companies being nominated and selected by the world’s top 40 technology investors. Through their use of AI and machine learning, these companies are set to change the future of software.

We were delighted to be chosen by Madrona to design the branding and website for this prestigious project and help promote the initiative across professional online media worldwide.

“I was so impressed with the team at Bolser. They are easy to connect with over zoom and I felt they really understood our needs – and the time constraints! The designer and project manager were always available and responsive and I loved how they workshopped the logo design, taking us through the various decision trees that led to a couple of semi final designs. Their turnaround was very quick and we loved the final design, colours and fonts.”

The challenge

New brand, new website, tight timescale

The IA 40 project is a completely new initiative so we needed to create the brand from scratch and design and launch the website on a tight timescale of only one month.

What we did

Research based branding, UX-led design, online promotion

  • Working collaboratively with the team at Madrona we designed the logo and branding using decision trees to narrow down the options.
  • The branding had to reflect the technical, cutting edge initiative and companies it represented, including logo, fonts and colours.
  • The logo design was used across all promotional assets including offline material, such as event collateral, brochures and swag.
  • The website was designed to the highest accessibility and best practice standards.
  • The primary focus of the online media strategy was Linked In - specifically targeting new investment prospects in the intelligent application field and the industry press.
  • The online media campaign was designed to reflect the branding and appeal to the technical target audience.
